Happy Easter! Sunday Social.

Happy Easter, everyone! We're back from church and just relaxing until we go to Justin's family's house for dinner. Easter Sunday is one of my favorite church services! Now I'm linking up with Ashley and Neely for Sunday Social.
Sunday Social
1. What is your favorite type of workout to do?
I really like doing yoga. And zumba. I do like to run, but that's harder for me to get into. If I'm working out I'd rather be doing something that feels like more fun than a workout :)

2. What is your favorite guilty pleasure candy or sweet?
Ice cream. All day long. Or fro-yo from CherryBerry, with all kinds of delicious candy and fruit toppings.

3. What is one thing you continuously forget to do?
Oh, there are so many things. Take out the shred pile in my classroom which is getting pretty large, put my wedding ring back on in the morning, and return text messages if I don't do it right away.

4. Do you prefer post-its or phone reminders? Why?
I like using my phone for appointments. When the alarm goes off reminding me I have to be somewhere it's hard to ignore. I do enjoy a brightly colored post-it note adorning my refrigerator or calendar though.

5. What is your favorite picture currently on your phone that always makes you smile?
This. I made this hat for Justin a while ago and this cracks me up every time.

I hope you're all enjoying your Easter and what's left of your weekend!

My Thoughts on Things

I haven't had any terribly exciting news in my life these days and I've kind of stunk up this blogging thing so I decided to share some things that have been on my mind lately.

Jello is disgusting. It looks pretty. It smells alright. I can't stand the texture. I served it to my students for snack on Thursday; watching it jiggle on the spoon and hearing them slurp it out of their fingers was almost enough to make me gag.

Amaretto is delicious. After my jello filled work day I needed a drink. Justin offered to play bartender and mixed me up an amaretto sour. I feel like I have wasted my legal drinking years not drinking this stuff.

Realtors have a freaking hard job. I guess that's some exciting news. Today we met with a realtor. She was looking through our "cart" of saved houses with us making a list of ones we could go see. She rattled off addresses and said "What did you think of that one?" Lady, we've looked at so many house pictures online they all look the same. Like I'm going to remember addresses!

Spring is great.  Today it was almost 50 degrees outside and sunny all day. I could get used to this. But it's Wisconsin. So I won't.

Long nails are overrated and will my hands ever get better? When it's cold and dry and wintery outside my hands get really super dry. I don't have a problem with dry skin anywhere else on my body, but when I wash my hands 353987209576 times a day they take a pretty  serious beating. By the end of this week they were cracked open and bleeding. I'm ready for a few days without soap and bleach and sanitizer.
See my alligator skin on my hands? Gross. This is pretty tame, actually. But my nails look good!
Also, I've been trying to grow out my nails. They look pretty good, but I want to rip them off all. the. time. Worth it? I don't know.

Mark Schultz. Concerts are my favorite thing in the world. Mark Schultz is coming to a city near us and I'm going with one of my best friends. I can't wait!!

Those are my thoughts. Today we're having some friends over and I'm in charge of dessert while Justin makes dinner. I'll let you know what I come up with. Happy Easter, and have a wonderful weekend!

Sunday Social/House hunting

Big excitement, folks! Today Justin and I are going house hunting! We've been looking around at local listings on the internet for a while now, but today we're taking the next step to home-ownership and going to some open houses! Woo! But first, Sunday Social.
Sunday Social

1. What is your favorite thing about spring?
I love the warmer weather. By the time spring rolls around (apparently it missed the memo this year) I'm itching to get outside. Let's be real...I love spring clothes too.

2. What is your favorite kind of flower to grow or receive?
I do not have a green thumb; I don't grow flowers. But my favorite are lilies.
3. What is your favorite nail polish color?
Way back when I thought I was going to blog about makeup and beauty things (see how that worked out??), I posted about this color, "I Need A Refresh-Mint" by Wet N' Wild. This is the first color I've ever had to repurchase because I used it up. I love it.

4. What is your favorite outdoor activity?
Source: via Ashley on Pinterest
This ecard was in Ashley's post and I thought it was hilarious!! Honestly though, I love going for walks outside. Our town actually has an outdoor yoga class in the summer too, which is pretty awesome.

5. Do you have any fun spring plans? Details! :)
My best friend is getting married this spring! We're also really hoping to buy a house sometime this soon!

The Ex and the Mix Tape--The Conclusion

I listened to that mix cd almost the entire 12 hour ride home, hoping that the majesty of song would heal my hot mess of a relationship. And then there was this...
"Ideal Woman" by William Shatner. If this isn't romance, I don't know what is....

Anyway, by mid July we were hardly talking at all. Our phone calls usually consisted of me leaving a voicemail. Then he'd send me a facebook message saying he was busy when I called and didn't know when he would be able to call back. This went on until the end of August when he called me in the middle of the night to break up with me.

A couple weeks later we were back at school. We said we'd try the "staying friends" thing. I suppose you can figure out how that went. It took him about two weeks to start seeing someone else and aside from the "exchange of stuff" we didn't acknowledge each others' existence.

Here's a little side story just for fun: One night I went out to dinner with a group of new friends (since obviously my old ones chose the enemy's side). The hostess was about to plop us into a table right next to Sir Ex and the woman on a very cozy date when one of the guys in the group pulled that hostess aside and said "This won't work. Can we sit somewhere else?" I'm married to that guy now.

I don't think I've talked to him at all since then. I congratulated him on his wedding (to the girl) and he congratulated on mine. His aunt and uncle go to our church and still feel the need to give me updates on him occasionally.

Get to the point, Steph. Well, recently I found the mix cd buried in the glove box of my car. I went through a dilemma about whether or not I could/should listen to it. I did, and it's actually really great. Except the William Shatner thing. There are some really good songs on it that I had forgotten about and some I don't remember listening to at all.

Pink Bullets by the Shins, Colorful by Rocco Deluca, Hey Julie by Fountains of Wayne... to name a few. I guess the moral of this story is that...well...I guess exes can have good taste in music too.

...yeah that's it.

Sunday Social 3/17

Happy St. Patty's day! Did you know that when St. Patrick's day first came to Boston people believed that wearing green made you invisible to the leprechauns? Apparently the leprechauns go around pinching everyone they can see. Pinching people who weren't wearing green became a warning for them. At least that's what wiki answers told me

That's enough about St. Patrick. Let's get to the Sunday Social fun, shall we?

Sunday Social
1. What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day? I really love rainy days. They kind of make me feel like I have an excuse to be lazy. My favorite thing to do on rainy days is curl up in comfy clothes and either read, watch a movie, or sleep.

2. What is your favorite thing to do on a summer weekend? Bonfires. I love staying up late and sitting around a fire. Especially if there are marshmallows to be toasted.

3. What is your favorite spring activity? Walking. It's so exciting to be able to finally get outside in the spring and enjoy the fresh weather.

4. What is your favorite way to spend a winter day? Pretty much the same as a rainy day. I don't like being outside in the snow and cold; I'd much rather be cozied up inside watching the snow come down. My students really like sledding though, and going with them has been fun.

5. What is your favorite season and why? My favorite season is fall. The weather, the leaves, the clothes, the pumpkins...that's why fall is my favorite. I enjoy and appreciate all of the seasons though. When I lived in Florida there wasn't much of a season change and it was kind of depressing.

6. What is the best birthday you ever had? I'm really not sure how this question fits in with the weather/season theme. The best birthday I ever had was my 23rd birthday. If you've read this blog before you probably know why. If you don't, too bad. Just kidding. That was my best birthday because I had just gotten married. My 23rd birthday was my first day being a married lady and I got to spend it setting off on my honeymoon with my new husband.
Have a happy week, everyone! Don't forget to follow me on bloglovin!!

and I will follow you back!!

The Ex and the Mix Tape Part 2

When I left you last time, I got dumped on a Friday night while I was sick in my dorm room.
Crying after break up
I did cry. Like a baby. But Sweet Brown is right...ain't no one got time. By Sunday morning he was sitting on my floor begging my forgiveness. he said "I missed you. I want to try again". But he was still sitting on the floor. Of course I went running back.

My friends thought I was making a big mistake. I got mad at them. They were right. A week or so later we got into a huge fight outside the cafeteria between classes. He slammed doors and I went back to class with mascara running down my face.

The rest of the school year took that same pattern. We would have stupid fights where we wouldn't talk for a few days, then we would spend days talking about our future. But things were never more than "ok" and I was too afraid to admit that.

Funny Flirting Ecard: I love you so much, I will even talk to you on the phone.
At the end of the year he was going on a summer internship and I was going to stay with my parents. We agreed that we would talk on the phone, even though he really hated it. He gave me a mix cd before we left and I watched him give away a Christmas gift I gave him.
We said "Talk to you soon" and went our separate ways. The saga continues.

The Ex and the Mix Tape Part 1

Well, blog friends, it's time to share the story of the ex. The ex. There was only one guy before Justin.

I had my first date my sophomore year of college. We had the same friends and saw each other a lot. We would do those awkward things like sit too close while we were watching movies with a group, say awkwardly lengthy goodbyes, and drop all kinds of not subtle body language clues. One night after a group of us had walked back from singing (this is seriously what we did for fun; gather up all of the show tunes we owned--which between the group of us was a lot--and sing in the choir room at night) and I had gotten into my pjs, he called me back down to talk. Seriously?

He said he thought I was pretty. And that he would be honored if I would agree to go on a date with him. Guys didn't say that to me, ok? My little heart was exploding. I floated back upstairs on cloud 9. For about a week we went through this awkward "We haven't really started dating...but what in the world are we doing?" phase until we finally settled on a date for our surprise outing.

He took me on a picnic.Well, first he took me to a gas station where we awkwardly picked out picnic food. Then we went into the woods. Obviously I was too twitterpated to realize this was kind of weird. We had an alright time frolicking through the forest and laying in a sun soaked meadow like a freakin Twilight scene. When we got back we agreed to do dinner later and try to get a group together for a movie. By the time I got back upstairs (because obviously I had to stop at every one of my friends' rooms to spill the details) I had a relationship request on facebook. *Insert Name Here* would like to be in a relationship with you. Omigoodness.
Funny Flirting Ecard: Sorry about where I took you on our first date.

Over the next months it got weird. We took a couple of trips (including a weekend trip to see a Twins game...which really meant I spent the night with his nephew and sister-in-law while a bunch of guys came over to play Dungeons and Dragons. Clearly this was my clue that this would not end well...), I spent weekends with his family and he spent part of Christmas break with mine. I watched a lot of D&D games, but never played. We talked a lot less and all of the romantic gestures stopped. I figured this is what happened when the initial buzz wore off and invested even more of myself into this train wreck of a relationship.

One weekend near Easter time I was sick. I skipped school Friday because I was puking. Our college had separate girl/guy dorms and strict visiting hours, but in the early afternoon he called me and said he wanted to come visit that evening. I pulled my sick self out of bed, cleaned up the room and waited. He sat down next to me on the couch and said "I just don't think this is right. I think we should break up".

Of course I was devastated. He gave me a pat on the shoulder, told me he hoped I felt better soon and went on his way. Certainly off to another nerd game. And just when you hope this is where the sad tale ends, it takes a whole new twist. But I'll save that for next time. I'm about to go get my day drink on and block out my bad life choices.

Sunday Social and a Getaway

Guess what, friends? I'm on vacation! Kind of. Justin is attending a technology conference at this nifty indoor water park hotel and I decided to tag along until Tuesday. Do you know what this means? It means I will be spending the morning in bed, skip the shower, and float about in the lazy river until it's acceptable to hit the in-pool bar. Actually one of my main ambitions over these two days is to do some blogging.

So to kick it off, here is Sunday Social written from my bed in this lovely room (now that the water park is closed).
Sunday Social

 1. What is one movie you are terrified to watch?
I really don't any scary movies. Sometimes my friends convince me that it will be fun to get scared. Then after I pee my pants and can't sleep for a week I realize that they are wrong. And they are jerks. That's a lot of words for a short answer. Paranormal Activity (any of them); I will never watch them.
2. What is one TV show you have always wanted to get into but haven't yet?
Downton Abbey.
3. What is one daring activity on your bucket list?
I'm not a very daring person; I'm actually a pretty big whimp. I'd love to go skydiving, but I'm legit afraid I would pass out.
4. Would you ever travel alone?
I would. I probably would be more likely to if I weren't married; J really enjoys traveling and that's something we plan on doing together.
5. What activities do you like to do alone?
Working out. Unless I'm like taking a class or something. I'm not into going to the gym or going for runs with a bunch of other people.

Sweet's ok.

First of all, it's ok that it's 6:30 pm on Thursday night and I'm just writing this post. I love this link up and it's better late than never.

Its Ok Thursdays

-It's ok that tomorrow at 1:00  I am free. I work a half-day and then am going on a four day weekend and mini getaway with J. Actually, this is more than ok.
I might be starting my celebration a little early with a little dish of CherryBerry. That's ok.

-It's ok that this is what I'm dealing with now.  You guys, I hate laundry. So much.
-It's ok to not like Taylor Swift. Have you heard this business about her reacting to the jokes Tina Fey and Amy Poehler made about her? TSwift, settle your mess. What else did you expect after turning all of your crazy relationships into catchy little love songs? PS, it's also ok to love Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
I'm going to go tackle...or more realistically, put a dent in...that laundry. And start prematurely packing for my almost vacation. Wish me luck.

...that's the color that's on my nails right now. Oh say...can you see my patriotic American flag blanket?
This is one of the "Fast Dry" polishes from Wet N Wild and I don't love it. The color isn't bad, and it did dry really quickly but the polish seemed really watery and flat. It took two coats to get opacity that was just so-so. Why am I talking to you about my nail polish?? Because you'll listen. And because one of my students got me a mani/pedi gift certificate for Christmas and I've been too embarrassed by the condition of my nails to go; so I'm trying to keep them painted so I stop biting them.

Anyway, what else is new? I didn't do a whole lot this weekend. We went to visit a friend Saturday night and had an evening of wine and Settlers of Catan. Did you know that when you start to speak in an accent while you're drinking it's really hard to stop? one thinks it's as funny as you do?! Sunday morning I had to play organ for early service at church (7:45. Ouch). When we got home we both pretty much crashed and napped/lazed around most of the day.

And we're back to Monday. I went to Zumba again tonight. One of the sub teachers at my school heard me talking about it last week and decided to tag along. For a 60 year old woman, girl has moves. I also accidentally joined choir. I'm sure you're wondering how in the world I can accidentally join choir, so I'll tell you.

The choir director and pastor's wife regularly attend Zumba and have been trying to get me to come to choir for a few weeks. Tonight I decided to drop in and see what it was all about. I was immediately given a folder and a seat and told "Oh good! I typed a list of everyone's contact information but forgot to print it; now I can add you". So I guess I'm in choir! I've actually been missing being in a choir since we've moved here, so I'm excited even though my Mondays are now fullll (Work til 5:30, Zumba from 6-7, choir from 7-8).

That's all, folks. Hope you had a pleasant Monday.
