Luster NOW!

I got an influenster box a few days ago. I haven't tried all of the things, but I have been using this toothpaste.
The box and the website say this visibly whitens teeth after one brushing. I think this claim is a little outrageous. It's possible that my teeth aren't as pristine as they should be because I drink coffee and soda. Even still, it took me 2-3 brushes to notice a difference. And I definitely can see it now. I think up-close teeth pictures are weird, and I can't take a good one so I'll spare you that.

The toothpaste is really gentle. It's smooth, foamy, and not gritty at all. I'm not a huge fan of the "Happy Mint Flavor"'s not as minty as I would prefer. I don't feel like it freshens my breath at all. I know, I know...the main purpose of this toothpaste is for whitening. But if you wake up with stank breath like I do, it's nice to have a strong minty toothpaste to brush with.

I think I would buy this product in the future. $7.99 seems pretty reasonable to me. Much cheaper (and more pleasant, I think) than white strips. Good job, Luster!

Birthday Treats and Muddy Feet

Today I was feeling extra adventurous. When we went outside, of course all of the kids gravitated to this giant puddle. I read recently in an article that it's good to try doing what you see your students doing in order to understand why they're doing it. So I tried it.

It. Was. Awesome. We chased each other around in puddles, splashed, jumped, and got our feet stuck in mud. When it was time to go inside, I got a big bucket of soapy water and wash cloths and we all washed our feet and legs before we came inside. It was one of those spontaneous teaching/exploring/connecting with nature moments and it was one of my favorite parts of the whole day. Along with enjoying popsicles with the kids as a birthday treat.

Do you know what was not my favorite part of the day? I'll tell you. After zumba I went to Cherry Berry. I haven't been there in a long time and it's my freaking birthday so I figured I was kind of entitled. As I'm moving out of the way for the next customer, I grab a lid for my yogurt and spill the change part of my wallet all over freaking everything. Like...why does anyone even have this much change? I immediately bent down and started picking it up off the floor. Then think Hey. Maybe I shouldn't be crawling all over the floor while my wallet and my yogurt are up there unguarded. So I got up and there was another mountain of change on the counter. Then some lady comes to help me clean up.

What is the protocol for picking up a strange person's money? Obviously I'm thankful she started to help me. But am I the only one who thinks it's weird for someone else to be scooping up my money? Anyway, home girl picked up about three pennies and tossed them on the counter and added to the freaking mountain

So that's my day in a nutshell. I think I'm going to finish it up with some episodes of Friends and call it a night.

The First Year

Today is our first anniversary.
Can you believe I lasted a year with this cheeseball?

I try not to be too mushy on this here blog (although sometimes I just can't help it), but today is a special day. And Justin is a pretty special guy. Here are a few reasons why.
  • He puts up with my constant want to take pictures. (The picture above is one of many from a series of ridiculous "anniversary picture" shots. He made me vow not to post the others anywhere on the net.)
  • He lets me have the closer parking spot. We have two assigned spots in the lot at our building. They aren't far apart, but he always parks in the farther one. The little things.
  • He's incredibly calm and level-headed. We all know I worry a little too much. About everything. Justin has a very loving way of saying "Hey. You're being ridiculous. Settle down".
  • He is an amazing cook. Since we've been married I've gained 20 lbs. 'Nuff said.
  • He is romantic. We agreed on no anniversary/birthday gifts this year because finances are going to be tight with buying the house. But as soon as I opened my laptop this morning there was a sweet little card tucked inside.
  • He's adorable. I mean, come on.
Of course this list is just scratching the surface. We were blessed with a great first year of marriage and look forward to many more!

Ok I have no excuse as to why I haven't posted my snaps Monday and Tuesday, but lemme just tell ya about last night. I was at work until almost 10 pm. I had a staff meeting, another meeting and some work I really had to get done. And there was a lot of rain and lightning that I didn't really want to drive home in.

I also have the dreaded summer cold; it's so nice outside and I just want to sleep with the windows open but I wake up with a sore throat that feels like I swallowed a glass of glass, my nose is running like a faucet and I almost hacked up a lung at one of my meetings last night.

Enough of that. Here are my snaps.
I got my Influesnter box! The only thing I've tried so far is the toothpaste, which works pretty well!
There's nothing classier than a frozen margarita pouch in a plastic cup.
Except maybe cookies n cream ice cream.
I've always wanted to try Essie nail polish but couldn't bring myself to spend $7 on it. I got this one as a gift and I totally understand the hype. It goes on so smoothly, it dries quickly, and was completely opaque in one coat. The names also make me smile. This one is Jamaica me crazy.

That's all folks.

I haven't posted any snaps the past few days because of all of the wedding festivities and catching up with friends we haven't seen in a loooong time. Here are some highlights.

A quick trip to MoA, just like in college.
New friend, next bride, and fancy hair.
The beautiful bride and her entourage.

As soon as Justin is done snoozing we are going for one more lunch with friends before we all head back to reality.

Thanks for the memories, Minnesota.

Sleepy time

Tomorrow I have another 6 a.m. meeting. Conveniently my insomniac tendencies kick in most when I know I have to be up early. I can't sleep, then I start panicking about how little sleep I will get if I don't fall asleep right now.

So tonight after a marathon of laundry folding and putting away, I'm settling in with a cup of Sleepy Time tea on my nightstand. The photo behind the mug is just a's always on the nightstand.

The Silent Manicure

Here's my snap for today.

I got a gift certificate to a nail salon from one of my students at Christmas. It expires next week so I decided to give acrylics a try. Friends, my nails are in such poor shape. I bite my nails and when I paint them I let it chip off until there's none left.

I got out of work at 12:30 so I went right to the salon. I started to sign in and was preparing to have a seat and wait, since I was a walk-in when the lady up front said "Is it ok if you just come back later? I sign you in. 40 minutes". Ooook. I guess I'll come back later. Thankfully this place is less than 5 minutes away from my home so I just came back and watched some Grey's Anatomy.

Because I was excited, and because it was free, and I had the afternoon off, I went back. I still had to stand in the lobby for about 5 minutes before anyone spoke to me. Then I was pointed to a chair and waited there for a few more minutes. The man who ended up doing my nails didn't say a word to me the whole time. I almost fell asleep. He tapped on the tops of the lights, which I took to mean I needed to put my hands in. Then he got up and left and sat at the front desk. I was left on my own so I just sat until the lights went off. I got up and washed my hands, because that's what I saw another person do. I handed him my gift certificate, again, just assuming we were done...cuz he didn't tell me. He told me how much I owed him, crossed out the amount on my certificate and wrote how much was left. No goodbye or anything.

I like the nails fine. It's probably not something I will do often. Even if I do, it won't be at this place. It's kind of expensive, it smells, and will take me a lot of getting used to. If you get a poorly written text from me filled with mistakes, I apologize and blame the nails.

Just Another Manic Monday

My snap for today is what my Monday night looks like: Writing sub plans for when I'm gone at the end of the week, studying for a continuing-ed course, breaking in my new planner, and wine. Don't forget the wine.

I Found My Thrill

...on Blueberry Hill.

Today Sara and I met up for a day of brunch and shopping. We went to a pancake place called Blueberry Hill. It seemed right to order blueberry pancakes. They were delicious. After fueling up with several cups of tasty diner coffee we stopped off to pick up a wedding present (Emily, if you're reading'll find out next week!!) and do some other shopping.

Because it's my birthday month, I got my free birthday gift from Sephora: Benefit mascara/highlighter. And some other things. This place is my weakness.

And then we found these mustaches. It was a grand old day, and now I'm home procrastinating the planning of my short week. YES!! A short week. I have a half-day on Tuesday and Thursday, and am off Friday to Emily's wedding! I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

30 Day Snap

I found this little challenge at Sprinkle of Glitter called 30 Day Snap. Every day in the month of June you upload one snapshot of your day.
My blog is kind of lacking in the photo department and I thought this challenge would be a fun way to amp it up a little. This is my dilemma (please tell me if you have this problem and how you deal with it): I use my ipad to take pictures most often. Maybe I just don't know how to do this, but I can't upload those pictures directly into a blog post. I have been emailing them to myself, saving them on my computer and doing it that way. Is there an app (besides Blogger) that will help me? Someone fill me in.

Anyway, this is my snap for today. On my way home from church it was pouring rain and by the time I got into my parking lot it had stopped and for just a quick minute I saw these two rainbows so clearly. Beautiful!!
Tomorrow I'm having lunch with a friend who is moving out of state soon so hopefully I will get lots of good snaps then. Enjoy your weekend!
